FAQ

I will try to post answers to the most frequent questions I receive here.

  • Do you sell Silly Walk clocks?
No, I'm afraid I don't have the time to make and sell these clocks. But they're surprisingly easy to make yourself. Check out the tutorial, and let me know if you have any questions!
Edit: I may perhaps, possibly, maybe start selling a few clocks of s slightly new design on Etsy. I won't sell them by the hundreds or anything, so I still recommend making your own. If/when I maybe, possibly, perhaps start that Etsy shop I will post info on it here.

  • Can I get the image files you used when you made the clock?
Of course! They're not perfect, but better than any I managed to find. They're available for download from the tutorial.

  • Where did you buy the clockwork?
I bought it at a Swedish store called Clas Ohlson, which has pretty much anything from kitchenware, to hardware, to toys and electronics. However, I know that they also sell similar clockworks at my local crafts store.

  • How much would the materials for the clock cost?
It's very hard to give an estimate because I'm sure the price varies very much depending on where you buy your materials. I should say that the cost could be between 120 - 220 SEK, which at the time of writing is approx. $15 - $30 USD or €12 - €25 EUR. The price depends on whether or not you have to buy decoupage glue/brushes - but if you do, you probably won't use up all of it so you'll have glue/varnish left for other projects :). I haven't included any of the tools in the price, but the price of a plastic folder is included.

  • The clockwork print smudges when I try decoupaging it. What am I doing wrong?
It has come to my attention that inkjet prints aren't very good for decoupaging. If you can, print it using a laser printer. If you don't have access to one you can perhaps find some help among the tips here: Piddix.

Did you not find the answer to your question here? Let me know!

  1. Can you provide an estimate of how much it cost to make? In terms of material purchases? Thanks!

  2. Hi.
I liked your silly clock so much, I just made one myself. Now the problem is, that the clock hands are not turning. hte minute and the hour-hands remain still while the second-clock hand is working fine. so i know the clock work works fine. I don't know if they are to heavy (I used normal paper and put glue ond it. they are not really heavy...). what could be wrong?

    thanks

    1. I'm no expert at clockworks, I'm afraid, but make sure that no glue got into the clock mechanism, or that nothing is blocking the clock from turning. I doubt that they are too heavy, but you can always put the clock to 1-3 somewhere, so that they would move "downwards", i.e. making it possible for them to move even if too heavy. Make sense? That way you'll find out if that's the problem at least. I can't really think of anything else, but I would bet on there being something obstructing the clock hands from moving. Let me know how it turns out!

    1. Glad you like it :). I used this technique in Adobe Illustrator: http://vectorguru.com/tutorials/005_how_to_distribute_objects_around_the_circle_or_how_to_create_in_illustrator.html

      Good luck!

    1. Hi! Please see my answer to Anonymous above (original post November 27). I'm guessing it's a similar problem, but can't say that I'm an expert. Let me know how it turns out :).

  5. Gluing the legs to stiffer plastic (like from a folder/binder) doesn't work at all. The paper separates from the plastic with ease when it dries.

    1. Hi!
I think you may have issues due to the glue you are using. Make sure you are using glue that works on plastic. I didn't have any issues with the glueing.

      Good luck!
